Ana beat Makarova 6-3, 6-2.
Am I dreaming? A straight sets win. Not a single break point faced. Solid serve. Totally committed. I am so happy.
I’ve said this before, but this time I honestly feel Ana is coming back. Heinz and her new fitness coach were the best thing that happened in the last months. I used to feel Ana was sad on court, not enjoying, etc. Probably like most of her fans. That totally changed. She seems comfortable and confident in most of her shots and that is so nice to see. Also, how funny is that this is happening in USO? She usually doesn’t have great results there. It might be a sign.
She will face Zheng tomorrow. In my opinion, if Ana remains focused and calm she has a great shot of winning. Just breathe, girl. There’s still some ankle pain but it’s getting better.
Have you guys noticed how much she’s been smiling lately? Tennis needs her. It’s as simple as that.
When you are playing well and winning, the smile and joy will come. The biggest difference between the Ana we seen the past month and the Ana we seen for most of 2009 and this year is her serve. Last night Ana didn’t face a single break point the entire match against Makarova. In fact, Ana has only been broken a total of 3 times since her 2nd set tiebreak against Viktoria Azarenka in the 1st round in Cincinnati. One of those breaks came in that match against Clijsters which lasted only 4 games. So she has essentially went 4.5 consecutive matches with only being broken 3 times. When you are serving well, the rest of your game comes together and thus Ana’s confidence.
I also get the sense that she may finally be turning it around, but I don’t want to get my hopes up just yet. She needs to beat Zheng and hopefully give Bartoli a great match and possibly even win. Happy days may be here again! Ajde!
I totally agree. She stills need to prove a couple of things, but I’m happy the way things have been going on for the last couple of weeks.
I don’t want to seem too confident because I’m still scared but a little of positive thinking won’t hurt. She has the game and her head is slowly get into the right place. I want more happy days. Ajde!
