Dr. Tree?

Damn Johnny, you proved me wrong.

I had a discussion with the ladies of FD Podcast about Tree one evening, after recording had stopped I believed, on Isner. They all basically agreed he probably didn’t have top 20 stuff. I respectfully disagree, the guy’s serve is huge, and it would be able to squeeze him out a lot of tight matches (like that against Dick) and would be by this year.

However, sometime last week I said something about him being the new Dr. Ivo. I couldn’t have been more wrong. His serve is huge at 6’9, sure, and powerful. But his ability to move AND volley has really gone up, not to mention his forehand is noticeably stronger and he can really take the pace given to him and turn it right back around. This means that he not only has options (and good ones) AFTER huge serves but he also has the solid ability to break. Move over Ivo.

Last night he topped Monf in four impressive sets, who seemed like he was throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Tree (oh wait, that’s the way he always plays…) Apparently his goals at the beginning of the season were to win his first tournament and finish the year at the top 20. First tournament? Check. Top 20? It’s not about if, but when, in my opinion. He takes on Muzz next, which with the insane play of Muzz this tournament is likely not winnable, but should prove to be one hell of a match. Do NOT want to miss that.
