Rafa has been confirmed for the Davis Cup final! And Beijing, for that matter, obviously. Rafa playing FOR his country, IN his country, on clay, in the final of an event he couldn’t play last year… um, good luck Steps, you’re gonna need it.

Masha over Kleybs, Mono over Pavs, Vika over Lucie, A-Rad over Petkovic, JJ over a retired Vez… wait… I thought this was Tokyo? You’re telling me the favourites won? I don’t understand.

One half of the draw is Pova/Bensova and A-Rad/Rybawhatever (who beat CanWoz *single tear*) matches, other is Vika/Nails and JJ/Mono ones. Which of course could end up being Pova/Rad, Vika/JJ semis. It occurred to me what a strange group of players that is for the semis, of all the ones you could pick. Then it also occurred to me how loud they all are, minus A-Rad. Vika/JJ semi? Possible Vika/Masha final? If there’s some sort of ear plug company in Japan, they should consider setting up a booth outside centre court right about now. Anyway, nice to see some seeds and big names actually one, it actually makes it a bit of an interesting finish. Also, A-Rad, for the love of Sven, please make your first semi of this year. Its getting kind of painful.

Big. Fat. Liar.

Kimiko has issued a statement apoligizing for her fib she made when she returned to pro tennis after 13 years off, telling people not to expect a “Rocky-like” comeback. But instead, she won in Korea last week, being the oldest player to win a tournament since BJK in ’83. HORRIBLE, FILTHY LIES.

Either she is one cunning SOB, or an overly apologetic Canadian. Either way, do it up Grandma. In all seriousness though, someone should tell her to put those guns away before someone gets seriously hurt. We don’t lethal weapons here in Canada, and she’d have a hell of a time getting them over the border.

I know there’s the stereotype that Asians are shorter, but wow, I didn’t know they actually had the power to shrink other people to half their regular size. Soemthing tells me we’re going to need bigger ball kids if they plan on handling these now giant balls. (Cheers to Jills for the pic).

Not only did he win his doubles match in Team All-Star Sexy Time with Gilles, but he beat 5th seed Pesky Petz 6-2, 3-6, 6-1! Considering Marat isn’t going to have a whole lot more wins before the end of the season (and quite frankly, there’s nothing too exciting in the men’s game until next week) he gets his own post. Of course there’s no pictures documenting it, but fuck it. Good job Maratski, here’s to a few more broken racquets.

Wozniak def. Wozniacki 5-0 ret.

Other than that pic of the Wozes looking like something from a dream I once recently had, another rough night all around. Caro apparently retired from a virus, aka lack of giving a shit. And Lena is… well, Lena, the wrong one showed up.

But the fun doesn’t end there! If you call within the next five minutes, we’ll give you Bepa, Superhero, and Nads!… oh wait, they lost too. Masha nearly double bagelled Superhero, Bepa lost ot Kleybs in three, and Nads lost to Rybawhatever 2 and 2. Holy fack.

JJ beat Ms. Licky in 3 sets, which doesn’t say much since she’s just back from injury. But yeah, players just don’t care, I think we can throw away the “top seeds suck” thing for right now, cause this is insane. I’m starting to think it has a lot to do with Beijing. Its a mandatory tournament, they know everyone is gonna be there, its the last big thing of the year, might as well save it for then, right? Why some of them are there in the first place is beyond me, maybe just to get used to the time zone and all that. Here’s hoping that CanWoz can put together a solid run with such a wide open draw. But ugh, yeah, may the best qualifier win.

In other related news not exciting enough to have its own post, the Sisters have qualified for the dubs YEC. Wonder if they play…

No, I have no idea if half those words are either in an English dictionary or being used in a grammatically correct way.

Sad news for the Q-Man, he fell through a glass table after practice, injured his right forearm, which required emergency surgery, and will be out for 4-6 weeks. The words “fucking blows” come to mind.

“Welcome to Tokyo Burgers, how may I take your order?… the number 2 combo? Not a problem. Did you want seeds on that?… no? Sounds good. That’ll be a whole lot of shame and a bunch of “WTF”s, I’ll see you up at the window”

Perhaps this isn’t the first thing that came to mind when reading those scores, but likely your “WTF-sense” was tingling a something a mighty. It tells us something, for sure. Either the seeds really do blow, or this whole super long season is out of control. Not to be an apologist, but to make these players, not too shy of the final grand slam, hop on a plane to the other side of the world, fuck their sleeping patterns, and then count on them to compete at the highest level for the billionth time this year… I dunno. This is a bit silly. Its not even like those are winnable matches against tough, top 30 players. Those matches were ALL against qualifiers. Regardless, all sorts a crazy shit is going down over there.

Banana got bagelled by Mono (sad face), Bensova bagelled Gypsy in the third set, Vika and Masha apparently practiced together (I think a firetruck just drove through my house), and get these doubles teams: Flavs and Lisa Raymond, and Kuz and Vika. Flavs/Lisa actually won, and Vika/Kuz fell to top team Bluber.

On a bit more happy and regular note, CanWoz knocked out recently championed oldie Date Krumm, Sammy Superhero bagelled Glatch and won easily, and Masha, A-Rad, JZ and Dani all won.

The fun matches are coming though, promise. The Wozes face off tomorrow, as well as JJ/Ms. Licky, to name a couple.

As the saying goes, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Well, when the going gets boring, the bored get… even more bored. And then they get going. Somewhere.

And they notice random crap that most probably never would. But we’re tennis nerds, and these things are important. MTR regular Stella is on a mission. A crusade. A quest. To prove that, at some point after the USO, Elf fixed up his mad grill/pearly whites.
