Trainfire Up And Down The Line
Posted by Brodie under: Cincinnati, Flavs, Kimmy

Someone slow this crazy Italian girl down! Flavs continues to burn up the hard courts, knocking out Venus in a hard fought match, 76 64. This will apparently bump her into the top 10, which with her consistency, is a long time coming. Venus was having some serious backhand problems, much like during LA, and making a lot of careless UEs (tough to like her chances in the USO if she keeps it up) but full credit has to go to Flavs. There were a bunch of breaks in the first set, but the second took the ATP approach and both players were just bombing away on serve. She’ll play Dani, who beat Bepa in a three set marathon (despite the second set being a bagel from the Bepa Bagel Factory) and its hard not to like her chances to get to a semi, if not further.

Well well well. Look who won again. And is anyone REALLY surprised? She needed 3 sets against Kuz, who got her act together in the second set (despite some amazing shots and holding from Kim) but the consistency of Mom came through in the third set which she took rather easily, 64 46 62. This is of course the first chance anyone has been able to catch her on TV, stream, etc. but if you missed it, I highly recommend you catch some of her match against what will likely be Dina tomorrow. She was having mega first serve problems in the first set, but in the second she started figuring it out, and despite dropping the set, was absolutely spanking (horrible pun intended) the ball all over the place and using the whole court brilliantly. Total killer instinct. This gets me even more excited for the Toronto draw, because both Mom and Masha are going to be thrown in there somewhere and are pretty well guaranteed to fuck stuff up and create some really really interesting early round matches.
Also, Czink retired against Caro at 3-0. Huh? She upsets Ana and then just pulls out? I’m not sure exactly what the problem or what was up, but on behalf of Ana, lame. Cause when its going bad, its going really bad. In Caro’s case, when its going well, its going really well, and I’m sure she’ll take the rest. She’ll take on Lena tomorrow, who knocked out Banana 4 and 4. Caro beat her earlier in the year in Miami and it was a match that really started making me a huge fan of hers, she played brilliantly and it was just a really solid and see-saw kind of match. Definitely one to catch. JJ is up a set right now against Vika, and Dina will play Peng later.
And ReRe lost to Bammer in straights, and barely looked like she was even present. The strength of Bammer’s shots, with all due respect, are approaching hilarity when compared to Rena’s typical power, but Rena just totally didn’t give a damn by the look of it, and Sybille simply had to get the ball over the net and won the match. At the end of it, her first serve was around the 80mph mark. Whatever Serena.
